Why does grief feel worse in the evenings?
Because that's often when your pet's presence was strongest: the walk after work, the cat on your lap, the last trip outside before bed. The routine is still in your body even though they're gone. It can help to put something new into that hour, such as a call, a short walk or an online group that meets in the evening.
Why do I feel so guilty after putting my pet to sleep?
Because you were responsible for them and had to decide with incomplete information. Guilt is one of the most common reactions after euthanasia, even when the timing was right. Most pets now die this way: in a large US study, 83.0%[7] of dog deaths were by euthanasia. Writing down what you knew on the day, and talking it through with someone, usually eases the loop.
What is anticipatory grief?
It's grief that starts before a pet dies, often during a long illness or old age. In the RSPCA survey, 75.4%[8] of owners experienced it. It can bring sadness, irritability and guilt about feeling sad while your pet is still here. That's normal. Many people find it helps to plan a few good days together and to ask the vet what the end might look like.
Are there pet loss support groups in Macau?
Some areas have regular groups and some don't, and listings go out of date quickly. Start by asking your vet, your nearest emergency animal hospital and the local humane society or animal charity, since they often host groups or know who does. Check that a group has met recently before you go. If nothing meets near Macau this month, an online group in your time zone offers the same understanding without the drive.
Is it normal to feel relief after my pet died?
Yes, especially after a long illness or weeks of nursing care. Relief usually means the worry and the caregiving have ended, not that you loved them less. Many people feel relief and deep sadness on the same day, sometimes in the same hour. If the relief comes with guilt, try saying both out loud to someone you trust; hearing that the two can coexist often eases it.
Should I see a pet loss specialist in Macau or a general grief therapist?
