Pet Loss Support in the United Arab Emirates: what to know
In the United Arab Emirates, the support you find after a pet dies depends on language, distance and knowing where to ask. This page lays out the national picture: support and crisis lines, what counseling usually costs, how people mark a pet's death and which rules apply to a burial or scattering. The 4 city pages add local weather, customs and nearby options.
This is our guide to pet loss grief support in the United Arab Emirates, from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah to smaller towns. We're an independent guide, not a therapy service. We explain the options, share honest cost information and, if you ask, email you support options that fit where you live.
We cover 4 communities in the United Arab Emirates, from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah to smaller towns.

Loss and remembrance in the United Arab Emirates
Every community has its own ways of mourning, from formal ceremonies to quiet private rituals. Pet loss tends to fall outside all of them, which can leave people unsure how to behave. The simplest approach is to borrow whatever feels natural in the United Arab Emirates, such as a gathering, a candle, a shared meal or a walk, and let that be enough.
Budgeting for support and aftercare in the United Arab Emirates
For a sense of scale: by our estimate, one private pet-loss counseling hour can cost roughly what a simple private cremation does, while university and charity pet loss lines in several countries are free[2]. Most of those lines serve their own country, so from the United Arab Emirates an online group or a local counselor is usually more practical. Ask any counselor for their fee and whether they've supported pet loss before.
Formal pet loss support varies a lot by country, and in the United Arab Emirates it may be mostly informal: your vet, friends who understand and online groups that meet in your language or time zone. Those cost nothing. Private counseling is paid, so ask about fees first. The table shows published aftercare prices from other markets as a rough guide.
| What | Typical cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Online pet loss groups | Usually free | Pick one in your time zone |
| Private counseling | Per-session fee, varies | Video sessions widen the choice |
| UAE: shared / separate cremation | AED 700–900 / AED 2,300–2,700[3] | Small pet shared; up to 30 kg separate |
| UAE: euthanasia, small animal | AED 400-500[4] | Includes municipal disposal |
| US for comparison: private dog cremation | $260[5] | National average |

Permissions worth checking in the United Arab Emirates
Most of what helps with grief needs no permission at all: a candle, a letter, a walk. The exceptions are a burial or scattering outdoors, which the United Arab Emirates and local authorities may regulate, and time off work, which usually rests on your employer's policy. The main points we have for the United Arab Emirates are below.
In the UAE, pet burial isn't generally permitted, so cremation is the usual route and remembrance tends to happen at home. Many pet owners are expats far from family, which can make a loss lonelier. Online groups that meet in your home time zone, video calls with people who knew your pet and a counselor who works remotely can all help.
What helps, one step at a time
- Talk about the day before it arrives. Find out from the vet how it will go, who's allowed in the room and whether a home visit is an option.
- Plan a last good day when they're well enough: their favorite meal, some sun to lie in, the people they're fondest of close by.
- Decide who stays in the room. Some people want to be present; others say goodbye just before. Either is loving.
- Take a quiet moment afterward before you leave or before the vet takes them. Nobody will hurry you.
- Expect relief alongside sadness. After a long illness, relief is common and doesn't cancel your love.
- Book something for the week after, like a walk with a friend or a group session, so the days don't all look empty. The farewell planner can help you set this out.
Rituals and remembrance in the United Arab Emirates
Planting is a lasting way to remember, whether it's a tree in the yard, a pot on your balcony in the United Arab Emirates or a flower bed that blooms around their birthday. If you're adding ashes, mix them well with plenty of soil. The plant changes with every season, and many people find that watching it grow gives their grief somewhere gentle to go.
The services page compares what each option includes, the planning tools turn your animal's details into figures, and the poll results show what other families chose. All locations lists every region we cover.

Questions people ask
Is there a pet loss helpline in the United Arab Emirates?
Dedicated pet loss lines are rarer outside the UK, North America, Australia and New Zealand, and we don't list a national one for the United Arab Emirates. Your vet is the most useful first contact, and online communities for bereaved owners are open to all. If grief becomes overwhelming, contact a general crisis or emotional support line or your doctor, and call emergency services if you're in danger.
Are there online pet loss groups for people in the United Arab Emirates?
Yes. Many online groups welcome anyone, wherever they live, though meeting times suit their own time zone. They're a good option if nothing meets near you or you'd rather not cry in public. Counseling is different: therapists are often licensed only where they practice, so check that before booking someone far away.
How can I help a child grieve a pet?
Use plain, honest words, let them ask questions and give them a small role in the goodbye, such as drawing a card or choosing a photo. Tell the school if they're upset. Consider extra help from a school counselor or family doctor if, weeks later, a child still can't sleep, avoids school or seems stuck.
Where can I scatter my pet's ashes in the United Arab Emirates?
Private land with the owner's permission is the simplest choice. Parks, beaches and other public land often have their own rules, so check first. Choose a quiet spot away from paths and water, and consider keeping a little back in a keepsake. A scattering with a few friends can become a meaningful ritual.
What if I can't afford a counselor in the United Arab Emirates?
Free support covers a lot: pet bereavement lines, online groups, general listening services and your vet. For counseling, ask about sliding-scale fees, check whether an employee assistance program at work offers free sessions, and ask your doctor what local services exist. If you're in crisis, crisis lines in the United Arab Emirates are free at any hour, and grief after a pet is a valid reason to call.
Where can I find pet loss support in the United Arab Emirates?
Start with your vet, the nearest emergency animal hospital and your local humane society or animal charity, since they often host groups or know who does. Larger cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah are more likely to have regular in-person groups. Anywhere in the United Arab Emirates, online groups and phone lines are available, and many counselors now work by video.
